Much has been said about this movie which turns out to be true. Couldn't get a grip on the narrative and that may have impacted on the acting of the same top cast that even did well in the first installment.
But really how come Netflix decided to use this as the first Nollywood movie of the year 2022. It seems that the Nigerian viewing market has been taken for granted but considering the preponderance of negative reviews smeared all over social media, the management should be rest assured that this 1st of January move with the EbonyLife movie, directed by Niyi Akinmolayan ( The Prophetess, Progressive Tailor Club) has backfired. Suffice to say that it may not help push up the figures and definitely reduce engagements that might affect conversion rates, especially in the UK.
One would have expected that the streaming giant should have anticipated this when it was (I hope) previewed. The UK Nigerian/African market is not entirely loyal to Nollywood on Netflix largely because of the supposed poor quality of some films that are on the platform. And more so, due to the high number of Nollywood movies on Youtube which can be streamed for Free.
Existing subscribers ordinarily tune in to watch a good film that may not necessarily be Nollywood. However, if the quality of the Nollywood content were of good standards, this would have helped the viewing figures even with a significant increase.
Let's hope this serves as a lesson learned for future decision
