A WEEKEND WITH NIYI AKINMOLAYAN ON NETFLIX

Niyi Akinmolayan is a name that is becoming synonymous with Screen Nollywood. In less than ten years of being in the industry, he has directed, edited and Executive produced blockbuster movies. He directed The Wedding Party 2, a 2017 romantic comedy reported as the 3rd highest-grossing movie.

His foray into Nollywood began as a graphic designer editor forging a pathway into animation and visual effects. This morphed into his directorial debut, a feature film titled Kajola in 2010.

In 2014 he directed Make that Move, a movie starring Ivie Okujaiye, Tina Mba and Beverly Osu that earned an AMVCA nomination for Best Movie Drama in 2015. And ever since, the Engineering graduate became a sought-after director, making hit movies. 

Apart from providing Visual Effects, his company, Anthill Studios, is also into film production and a springboard for aspiring talents such as Akay Mason, who directed Elevator Baby, a comedy-drama.

Akinmolayan has no less than four movies streaming on Netflix: Chief Daddy, The Arbitration, The Setup, and Meet the In-laws.

Chief Daddy is a 2018 comedy-drama. Akinmolayan directed an all-star cast that includes Richard Mofe Damijo, Joke Silva, Patience Ozorkwor, Nkem Owoh, and Funke Akindele amongst others. 

A family drama that hilariously dealt with inter-tribal marriage in Nigeria. 


An intense drama about Rape and Sexual Abuse starring U C Okeje and Adesua Etomi. The Arbitration is one of the five movies that  Akinmolayan has worked with Etomi on.  Another blockbuster  movie is The Wedding Party 2, 

A 2019 crime thriller starring Adesua Etomi and Kehinde Bankole alongside Jim Iyke, Dakore Egbuson and Tina Mba.
