Biodun Stephen, film director, producer and writer, specialises in family and romantic drama, and she is doing an amazing job of it. With over 20 movies to her credit, Ms Stephen has established herself as a major force to reckon with in Nollywood, the Nigerian, nay Africa’s sprawling industry.
‘Breaded Life’, one of her most recent directorial works starring Bimbo Ademoye and Timini Egbuson, charted globally on Netflix, while her hilarious one-scene comedy, ‘Progressive Tailors Club’ streams on Amazon Prime.
A graduate of Nigeria’s Obafemi Awolowo University, Ms Stephen originally wanted a career in acting but opted for filmmaking after unsuccessful attempts and went to the London Film School to hone her skills.
Her first production venture in 2014, was ‘The Visit’ starring Nṣe Ikpe Etim and Blossom Chukuwmerieje, which instantly earned her two AMVCA nominations.
In 2017, she consolidated her accolades with another chartbuster, ‘Picture Perfect. Starring Bolanle Ninalowo and Mary Njoku, Earning five nominations, the movie also became a flagship on Sky Channel’s ROK TV.
In addition to ‘Breaded Life’, she also wrote, directed and produced ‘Ehi’s Bitters’, ‘JOBA’ and Miz Behaviour.
As a Nollywood filmmaker, Ms Stephen knows how to keep her audiovisual narratives simple and enchanting. She adequately employs the filmic elements to tell a story that always comes through genuinely and with utmost conviction.
