Atlas, starring Jennifer Lopez, is a sci-fi action movie exploring the social issue of humanity's relationship with artificial intelligence.
Directed by Brad Peyton (Daylight), the movie follows Data Analyst Atlas Shepherd, who deeply distrusts AI technology despite her achievements in IT data analysis. This attitude stems from witnessing her mother, an AI expert, destroyed by her own AI creation; Harlan, a robot to which Atlas had grown attached, becomes the world’s first AI terrorist. Atlas, who has always been in pursuit of Harlan, finally teams up with the International Coalition of Nations (ICN) armed forces to crush Harlan and its AI bots squad. Her biggest challenge is overcoming her distrust and disbelief in AI technology.
Despite receiving generally negative reviews, Atlas, written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite, remains a well-produced action movie highlighting the pros and cons of AI technology while delivering an entertaining cinematic experience reminiscent of The Terminator. The film also stars Mark Strong, Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Abraham Popoola as Casca Decius.
