Brilliantly written by Kemi Adesoye, the story follows two friends, Femi (Nouah) and Sola (Afolayan), who stumble upon an ancient mystical sculpture, Araromire, during their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posting. While their discovery may have altered their destinies in unforeseen ways, a love triangle adds further tension. Femi, a reserved and unassuming character, is deeply in love with Mona (Oboli), but she is romantically involved with Sola and later marries him. Unable to accept this, Femi takes matters into his own hands.
With its gripping narrative, polished cinematography, and strong performances, The Figurine received both critical acclaim and commercial success. It dominated the 6th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) with ten nominations, winning five awards, including Best Picture and Achievement in Cinematography. The film also gained international recognition, screening at prestigious festivals such as the Rotterdam International Film Festival and the London BFI Film Festival.
