SCREENNOLLY THROWBACK - OMOTARA JOHNSON

A gripping 2009 drama produced by and starring Bukky Wright in the lead role, Omotara Johnson (O.J) features an impressive cast that includes Chidi Mokeme, Toyin Alausa, Jide Kosoko, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Toyin Abraham, Iyabo Ojo, Funsho Adeolu, and many more.

Directed by Muhydeen S Ayinde and Wale Ilebiyi, the film tells the story of Omotara Johnson, aka O.J., whose jealousy slowly turns into a dangerous obsession. After meeting Tunde Bamgbopa (Mokeme) alongside her best friend Kemi (Alausa), O.J. finds it difficult to accept that Tunde chose Kemi over her. What begins as quiet envy soon spirals into bitterness, manipulation, and eventually something far more deadly. As love, heartbreak, and wounded pride collide, O.J. becomes consumed by the need to reclaim the life and love she believes should have been hers — no matter the cost.

Now, over 15 years later, the story continues with The Return of Omotara Johnson, scheduled to hit screens in July 2026. Beyond the excitement of revisiting one of Nollywood’s most memorable psychological dramas, the sequel also marks the highly anticipated return of Bukky Wright to Nollywood after a long hiatus from the industry. For many longtime fans, that alone makes the project special. With O.J.’s dark legacy still lingering in the minds of viewers, expectations are already building around how the new film will revisit the iconic character — and whether Omotara Johnson is truly back for redemption, revenge, or something even more dangerous.
