Lara and the Beats has been dubbed a Nollywood ‘Afrobeats’ movie. That seems very true because the plot is interwoven with an emotional happenstance of two sisters Lara (Seyi Shay) and Dara (Somkele Iyamah) Giwa who had to deal with a change in lifestyle due to their late parents’ crumbling media, and as a result of that Lara found herself pursuing a music career with the assistance of Sal (Vector).
It also qualifies as an Afrobeats movies because the lead roles were played by two top Nigerian musicians, Seyi Shay and Vector, featured Dj Xclusive and the director of the movie, Tosin Coker is renowned music video director cutting his teeth in feature-length movie. That explains a whole lot about the movie and possibly what to expect in terms of the photography (I did not say or mean Cinematography) I wondered why it required three screen writers though. But sometimes the more the merrier I guess
Nonetheless the soundtracks were on point. The movie rounded up with Lara performing a beautiful song, see me now at Dara’s Documentary premiere. It also had a beautiful line up of cast that includes Chioma Chukwuka Apotha, Deyemi Okanlawon, Bimbo Manuel, Chinedu Ikedieze, Uche Jombo, Lala Akindoju and Toni Tones.
