Black Rose a movie starring Blossom Chukwujekwu, Lilian Echelon, and Ebele Okaro is really trending on Netflix. And after watching it, I could see the reason why.
Rose (Lilian Echelon) a young innocent girl falls foolishly in love at first sight with, as it appeared initially, a well-to-do, well-mannered, and good-looking Desmond (Blossom Chukwujekwu). Desmond probably felt the same way, and after learning about by her family's financial situation, offered to assist. But as events began to unfold, we get to see that he didn't have the best of intentions. He ended up taking undue advantage of Rose's innocence and introduces to every vice one could imagine Drugs, Smoking, drinking, and worst still, an act that her elder sister, Ugo (Betty Belor) unfortunately, is already wrapped into, Prostitution.
Production quality seems OK but not too sure on how to rate the overall audiovisual narrative. It seems that there are two narratives in one. And of course, the twist just didn't tie in properly. Moreso the climax is obviously a lazy job of using a divine initiation of prayers to overcome the villain C'mon not in today's Nollywood. But what can be expected when one single person produced, directed, edited, photographed, cast directed, and even did the sound design of the 2hr long movie. Who knows maybe Okechukwu Oku is just trying to put his money where his mouth is because he also executive produced it.
In all, it turns out to be an interesting watch, the cast members which also includes JKA Swanky and rapper 2Shotz did an excellent job breathing life into the script written by Beth Rogers.
