Ghana Creative Industry Protest Akuapem Judgement - Signs Petition to Free her

No less than 30,000 has signed a petition to free controversial actress Akuapem Poloo who was jailed for posting nude pictures of herself and her son, in June 2020

A Ghanaian Circuit Court sentenced Akuapem, real name Rosemond Alade Brown on Wednesday 14th April 2021, to 90 days in prison to serve as punishment for posting nude photos of herself and her 7-year-old son on social media to celebrate his birthday.

The petition which aims to target 35,000 signatures is also backed by the Ghana Creative Industry. The campaign led by veteran hiplife crooner, Reggie Rockstone, Fella Makafui, Da Hammer, DKB among others, have expressed displeasure at the judicial system’s decision to jail Miss Poloo.
According to them, Akuapem’s posting on social media is more of a “creative license than criminal”
In a similar reaction, American rapper, Cardi B who met Akuapem during her last Africa Tour in 2019 has also reacted to the 90-day jail sentence.

In a tweet via her handle the one time VH1 Love & Hip Hop TV Star said she believes Akuapem Poloo should not have been imprisoned adding that the jail term was harsh.

She further stated that a social media probation or community service would have been a better option.
Akuapem, a brand influencer who has starred in various Ghanaian movies originally pleaded not guilty when arraigned but later changed it to a guilty one. And it will be recalled that she has also given a public apology as well as deleting photos at the height and heat of the mixed reactions when it viral last year.
