YOU DON'T KNOW ME - BBC Drama profiling UK Urban life streams on NETFLIX

As confusing and initially a bit of a drag, one could still end up gulping in the entire four-part episodes of You don't know me in one go. The BBC one drama series starring Samuel Adewunmi, Sophia Wilde, Bukky Bakry, Roger Nsengiyumva and Yetunde Oduwole is an adaption of a 2017 novel written by Imran Mahood.

Samuel Adewunmi plays Hope, a British Nigerian who is standing trial for murder and decides to sack his lawyer and present his closing statement. The closing statement is plotted to set the actual narrative in motion through flashbacks and we get to know that Hope who works as a Car Dealer and raised by a single mum (Oduwole) possibly in a Christian home with sister Bless, played Bukky Bakre, met and fell in love with book worm, Kyra (Wilde).

Through the same closing statement, we get to know that Hope is hard-working and law-abiding but couldn't avoid regular run-ins with mates from his South London neighbourhood and especially with Drug dealer, Jamil (Nsengiyumva)

Hope’s closing statement begins to get fascinating as we get to see that Hope, Kyra and Bless along with childhood buddy Curt, may have played a vital role in the murder of Jamil and also that Kyra is not really who Hope thinks she is.

Aside from the unconventional narrative style, the drama written and produced by Tom Edge seems very representative of the UK African community. Afrobeats and UK Grim included as soundtracks also enhanced the UK urban appeal
