Asewo to re Mecca starring Toyin Adegbola and Sola Shobowale, is an absolute blast from the past. It tells the story of two young ladies, Kudirat Afolasade (Sobowale) and Kuburat Ajoke (Adegbola), who were engaged in some Implied Prostitution, living off men. They decided to perform a Holy Pilgrimage and vowed never to return to the old ways upon returning from Mecca.
A 1992 Awada Keri Keri production by Adebayo Salami aka Oga Bello and directed by Afọlábí Adesanya, was one of the two early Yoruba Home Video Blockbusters, the other being Asiri nla. Though it made a financial success, it also generated some controversy when it was banned by the censoring board for "Abusing Religious Sensibilities". Nevertheless, both lead actresses launched successful careers from the movie. Adegbola who was nicknamed Ajoke Asewo to re Mecca also became the first female to produce a movie in the Yoruba genre.
Also starring Oga Bello, Sunday Omobolanle aka Papa Aluwe and Jide Kosoko
