CHAGUO : A movie about Politics, Love and Deceit

Chaguo starring Nyokabi Macharia (Country Queen), Nick Kwach and Abel Amunga and Brian Ogola  (Lusala), is a stimulating and intriguing political drama that cleverly pivots its narrative on how politics and history affect the relationship of a young couple, Wendo and Mugeni.

Wendo (Macharia) and her fiance, Mugeni (Kwach) though from different backgrounds,  are engaged but caught between the political and tribal rivalry of their families. Wendo, a political PR strategist, has volunteered her services to Matthew  Kowa (Ogola),  a young politician vying for a house of assembly seat who embodies the ideals of a united and progressive front. He has stiff competition from the diehard, old-school politician Njama (Amunga), Mugeni’s uncle and the most uncomfortable about Wendo working for the opposition.

As much as they try to distance themselves from the sentiments and prefer to offer their services (Mugeni also provides Data analysis services for his uncle's campaign), the pressure of the ongoing campaign didn’t just put their relationship to the test but also challenged their ideals for a united country.

Directed by the duo of Ravi Kamalker and Vincent Mbaya, Chaguo, while ticking all the right boxes in production values,  navigates us through the dynamics of dirty politics typical of most African states and how selfish politicians can use power to suppress even the civil rights of citizens.
