A STREAMING WEEKEND WITH JEMIMA OSUNDE

Jemima Osunde turned 28 in April 2024, yet her relatively young age and humble personality doesn’t scream a career brimming with achievements in Nollywood. Over the past 17 years, she has demonstrated a unique ability to embody diverse roles with depth and authenticity, earning her an AMAA nomination. And she even accomplished all this while completing her education with a degree in Physiotherapy.

Growing up as the only girl and the youngest in a middle-class family with older male siblings, Jemima developed the charismatic personality that helped her secure a lead role at just 17 in the short film feature "Jungle Jewel," produced by Ufuoma McDermott. Her exceptional performance led to a featured role in the MTV series "Shuga," where she starred as Leila in the fourth season.

Jemima's career flourished with roles alongside top Nollywood stars. In 2016, she starred with Chioma Chukwuka in "Stellar," written and directed by Uduak Isong. The following year, she appeared in Jadesola Osiberu’s romantic comedy "Isoken" with Dakore Akande and played a role in Omoni Oboli’s "My Wife and I" alongside Ramsey Nouah. In 2018, she appeared in Genevieve Nnaji’s critically acclaimed "Lionheart" and branched out as a major lead in Ndani TV’s "Rumour Has It" and Inkblot’s "New Money," directed by Tope Oshin.

Her ability to tackle challenging roles was evident in Adekunle Adejuyigbe’s "The Delivery Boy," where she played the daring co-lead role of Nkem, a sex worker. The film received rave reviews and was screened at various film festivals including the Africa Film Festival in New York and Africa International Film Festival, ARIFF in Nigeria. Jemima, for her stellar performance earned an AMAA nomination for
