FARMER'S BRIDE - Rising Actress, Gbubemi Ejeye shines in new heart-wrenching movie showing in UK Cinemas

Farmer's Bride is a captivating romantic drama that takes audiences on an emotional journey and keeps them engaged from start to finish. Starring Gbubemi Ejeye, the film delves into the turbulent emotions of a young bride torn between her duty to an older husband and her intense passion for another man.

Directed by Adebayo Tijani (Jagun Jagun), Farmer’s Bride is set in the 1970s in a beautifully imagined village in Southwest Nigeria. The film’s plot is filled with intrigue, with a moderate pacing that steadily builds suspense. Gbubemi Ejeye shines as Funmi, a young woman forced into marriage with Odunlade (Femi Branch), a much older, well-respected farmer. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she meets and falls deeply in love with Odunlade’s charismatic nephew, Ishola (Tobi Bakre). As Funmi becomes entangled in a web of deception and manipulation, her actions have devastating consequences for the entire family.

Written by Jack’ennteh Opukeme (Battle on Buka Street), Farmer’s Bride revolves around the complex relationships of five central characters. The film masterfully captures the essence of rural traditions and family dynamics, with vivid scenery and props transporting viewers into the heart of a 1970s village.

Mercy Aigbe’s portrayal of Mama Ishola, the village healer and Odunlade’s sister, adds depth to the story while supporting performances from Efe Irele and Wunmi Toriola further enhance the film’s emotionally charged narrative. The cast delivers a powerful story that explores the complexities of love, duty, and revenge.

Mercy Aigbe's role as Mama Ishola, Odun's sister and Village Healer, adds a lot of depth to the narrative directed by Adebayo Tijani.

Ejeye, as the lead, is outstanding. She transitions seamlessly from a naive young bride to a cunning manipulator, plotting against the family she never wanted to be part of. Her character’s transformation is one of the film’s standout elements, making Farmer’s Bride a must-watch for fans of character-driven dramas.

Another notable aspect of Farmer’s Bride is the film’s use of costumes, which help to deepen the narrative. Funmi’s large wig, adorned with a single bead, symbolises her inner rebellion and desire to assert herself amidst her turmoil
