What distinguishes this documentary is its thoughtful use of Talking Heads, voices that bring depth, urgency, and authenticity to the narrative. Through them, we gain a sobering view of life on set: a landscape marred by the lack of unionisation, inconsistent and often meagre pay, hazardous working environments, and woefully inadequate welfare structures. Yet, within these stories lie a fierce passion and enduring professionalism, too often eclipsed by Nollywood’s on-screen glamour.
If the aim was to spark a necessary industry conversation, then Rolling Without the Rights more than succeeds. It’s a poignant, well-researched, and urgent call for reform, professional dignity, and structural change in Africa’s biggest film industry
