RUTH & BOAZ – Tyler Perry Serves New Drama on Netflix with New Chefs in the Kitchen

Ruth & Boaz, the new romantic drama streaming on Netflix, may have a hint of Tyler Perry flavour, but this recipe goes beyond a Perry Kitchen of family-focused and emotionally charged menu. The biblical-inspired love story was cooked up by writers Michael Elliot and Cory Tynan, with Alanah Brown calling the shots as director.

Unlike many love stories where the central couple meets within minutes before embarking on the expected rollercoaster of passion, conflict, and reconciliation, Ruth & Boaz takes a strikingly different path. Adversity arrives early, and rather than introducing us immediately to the love heroine, the film grounds us in the presence of Naomi, played with quiet strength and grace by the legendary Phylicia Rashad. She becomes the vessel that draws Ruth (Serayah) and Boaz (Tyler Lepley) together, shaping the emotional and spiritual journey of the story.

Serayah, best known for her role as Tiana in the drama series Empire, delivers a tender and layered Ruth, while Tyler Lepley embodies Boaz with charm and conviction. Rashad, meanwhile, elevates every frame with her commanding portrayal of Naomi both in performance and narration. Together, they bring credibility, depth, and resonance to a timeless narrative that feels both familiar and fresh.

Adding further flavour to the production are special appearances by legendary music producers Babyface and Jermaine Dupri, alongside hip-hop artists Lecrae and Yung Joc, whose cameos add unexpected star power and cultural spice.
