Written and produced by Linda Ikeji and directed by award-winning filmmaker Tọ́ka McBaror, The Night of June 7th stars Gideon Okeke, Femi Branch, Ali Nuhu and Charles Lenny. The film seeks to recreate the emotional and devastating events of that night while encouraging audiences to reflect on the importance of justice, accountability and preserving history.
The film reunites Ikeji with McBaror, who also directed Dark October. Having successfully brought the Aluu Four tragedy to the screen in 2023, McBaror once again collaborates with Ikeji to dramatise another defining chapter in Nigeria's history, reinforcing what is fast becoming a creative partnership focused on true-life stories that challenge audiences to confront injustice and remember the past.
It also continues Linda Ikeji's growing interest in bringing real-life Nigerian tragedies to the screen. Her first feature, Dark October (2023), chronicled the infamous Aluu Four lynching and sparked widespread conversation after its release, establishing her as a producer willing to tackle some of Nigeria's most painful chapters through cinema.
Distributed by Nile Entertainment, The Night of June 7th opens in cinemas nationwide on August 28, 2026.
