Bukky Bakray, the 15 year Old who starred in the 2019 touching movie, Rocks, earned her first award at the 2021 Bafta Awards as the EE Rising Star.
It was one of her two Bafta nominations as she was also nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Bakray born to Nigerian parents in East London, Hackney was also nominated for the British/Irish Actress of the Year at the London Critics' Circle Film Awards. She scooped up the Young British/Irish Performer
Rocks, written by Theresa Ikoko and directed by Sarah Gavron, sees Bukky starring as Shola Omotosho, a 15-year old that found herself having to fend for herself and her young brother after been abandoned by their single mother.
She gave a stellar performance portraying a teenager not willing to give into welfare believing that her mum will return.
Other young British Nigerian actors nominated for the BAFTAs are Sọpe Dirisu for the same category and Wunmi Mosaku for Best Actress.
