Mama Drama is a compelling drama loosely based on true events about how IVF/ Surrogacy can be a solution to infertility in Marriages.
Mena (Osas Ighodaro) has been married but unable to conceive and has had 6 miscarriages. She learnt about IVF/Surrogacy and ask her PA, Kemi (Kehinde Bankole) to be her surrogate mother. Kemi, who is also married to Dotun (Femi Adebayo) and has a kid, agreed to it, signed a contract with a clause preventing her to sleep with anyone during the six weeks incubation period, and got paid.
Fast forward, during the pregnancy period Kemi lost her son but still delivered the surrogate baby. Mena and husband (Kunle Remi) relocated to the U.S with their baby. Seven years later Mena and family pops into town and bump into Kemi who is now widowed. Kemi saw the kid she helped give birth to but saw the striking semblance with her late child. Realising that this is not the surrogate child but her own, she decided to sue for custody
Directed by Seyi Babatope (When Love Happens) the 105min feature length, seem to have been shot on a lower budget than expected because there were some important scenes that were left out. For instance, we did not get to see Kemi and Mena talking about the surrogacy deal. Kemi just turned up in a theatre room for an ultrasound. Also the 'Virtual' Confrontational scene is of similar evidence. It really could have done better but all the same, its worth a view. Other cast include Adunni Ade who brilliantly played Simi, Mena’s sister in law and lawyer, Shaffy Bello, Chinyere Wilfred did a good too but their acts in the courtroom scene was a bit of an overplay.
