Unlike the bad blood and hatred that ran through in Blood Sisters, Ije is a story of love between two sisters. Chioma Okpara, (Genevieve Nnaji) a banker had to leave everything she is doing in Nigeria and go help and support her sister, Anya (Omotola Jalade) who is accused of a triple murder. Just as she brilliantly played the wicked sister role of Esther, Nnaji delivered with the same versatility, a wonderful performance as the Good and caring sister.
Produced and Directed by Chineze Anayaene as a directorial debut and a final year MFA thesis, Ije became an instant success and was the ‘highest grossing Nigerian box office movie ‘for five years. It also received international acclaim with an Award of Excellence at the Canada International Film Festival.
The 115min feature – length has been opined as “the movie which redefined the industry and the cinema experience in Nigeria”. After watching it on Netflix, I couldn’t agree more.
