FATUMA: INTRIGUING DRAMA OF HOW A MAN SELLS OFF LAND & DAUGHTER TO SEND GIRLFRIEND TO SCHOOL

Fatuma is another Tanzanian drama movie directed by the Jordan  Riber. At first glance it looks like sequel to The Envelope since Ayoub Bombwe and Cathryn Credo are cast again  as father and daughter. But the narrative is different and quite intriguing.

Here, Bombwe plays the absolutely irresponsible father and husband, Manyusi who wants to sell off his family farm and daughter Neema (Cathryn Credo) into marriage only to send his girlfriend to school.

He had a hard time accomplishing both plans since his hardworking wife, Fatuma (Beatrice Taisamo) who toiled the farmland, didn't give in easily to her husband's evil intentions.  And with the support of other women in the community fought to protect her harvest.

Theatrically released as Hadithi za Kumekucha: Fatuma, the film entirely dialogued in Swahili, won four awards; Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Cinematography at the 2018 edition of the Zanzibar Film Festival

Watch it on Netflix
