When watching HAWA, your initial impression is a silly little girl who is obsessed with being adopted by Michelle Obama and will do anything humanly possible to meet her. But underneath those exploits is a narrative that inspires Raw Determination and courage to succeed.
HAWA tells the story of a young teenager, Hawa (Sania Halifa), who lives with her grandmother, but has to be adopted due to her grandmother’s failing health. Strong-willed Hawa has no problem with that, but it has to be on her own terms and choice; America’s former 1st lady, Michelle Obama.
Also starring in this inspiring coming-of-age drama co-written and directed by Maimouna Doucoure (Cuties) is Grammy Award Malian singer Oumou Sangare as Grandma, Maminata and french based Cameroonian singer Yseult.
