Octavia Spencer played Dorothy Vaughan, the determined supervisor at NASA's segregated West Area of the Langley Research Center, who taught herself the Fortran Programming Language. Her performance earned her an Oscar, Golden Globe nomination for Best Support Actress and Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.
