POSTCARDS - New six part series on Netflix charts a fresh course for Bollywood/Nollywood cross - cultural narratives

Namaste Wahala, the first feature film by Hamish Daryani Ahuja, aimed to bring together elements of Nollywood and Bollywood but ended up being a critical disappointment. However, with her second project, "Postcards," a six-part series on Netflix, the former restaurateur turned film producer seems to have regained her footing and redeemed her reputation for exploring cross-cultural narratives.

Starring Sola Sobowale, Tobi Bakre, and Richard Mofe-Damijo alongside Rajniesh Duggal, Rahama Sadau, and Rio Kapadia, with feature appearances by Nancy Isime and Ibrahim Suleiman, Ahuja who produced and directed, tells the story about Obunmi Ajakaiye, a prominent Lonely at the top socialite who collapses in her shop and is diagnosed with a rare fibroid condition requiring treatment in India. Incidentally, her only son Yemi, an aspiring dancer won an audition to participate in a video show in India. India is also where her troubled-minded and successful brother, Olumide lives. Invariably India becomes the ground for family reunion, reconciliation and emotional healing.

Though the drama series holds its own in terms of excitement, the pacing at times feels sow and perhaps could have worked better as a feature-length film. Nevertheless, Postcards in terms of acting and production, combines the best of Nollywood and Bollywood, delivering a unique cinematic experience that serves as a reminder of the enduring appeal of cross-cultural storytelling.
