Make or Break is a captivating two-character drama directed by and starring Uche Jombo alongside Daniel Etim Effiong. The film explores the dynamics of a childless Nigerian couple, Ego (Jombo) and Linus (Effiong), as they navigate the challenges of marriage, migration, and shifting societal roles
The story begins in Lagos, Nigeria, where Linus—a confident and ego-driven ‘Nwa Boi’—thrives in his trade business, allowing Ego to lead a comfortable life without the need to work. However, Nigeria's failing economy disrupts the couple's lifestyle, prompting them to relocate to the United States. In their new reality, the roles are reversed as Ego gets a stable job as a nurse, becoming the family’s breadwinner. At the same time, Linus struggles to adjust to the American system, rejecting the menial jobs and insisting on being treated as the head of the household
Daniel Etim Effiong delivers an exceptional performance in interpreting the Nwa Boi role of Linus. At the same time, Uche Jombo, a seasoned actress, shines effortlessly as Ego, portraying resilience and grace amidst new life challenges. Together, their chemistry makes the characters’ struggles feel relatable and heartfelt
Though the narrative seems too long, with unnecessary scenes that could have been trimmed to enhance a tighter narrative flow, Jombo and Etim Effiong's stellar acting make Make or Break a memorable viewing experience, even if the runtime feels stretched
