Thicker Than Water, starring Adaobi Dibor, Taye Arimoro, and featuring Bimbo Ademoye, is a psychological thriller that skillfully balances suspense and emotion yet somehow manages to feel predictable and, at times, uninspired.
Produced by Nemsia studios and directed by Yomi E. Adejumo, the film tells the story of Ese (Dibor), a photojournalist determined to find her long-lost sister, Onome ( ), in the remote town of Ibeshe. Onome has been missing for months, and while the townspeople and even the police have long given up hope, Ese refuses to let go. Her discovery of Onome’s personal diary, filled with dark secrets, encourages her and sets her on a dangerous path of investigation, aided by Kazeem (Arimoro), Onome’s close friend.
Though the plot’s twists may feel familiar, Thicker Than Water compensates with its solid production values, notably the direction, editing, and cinematography, which are impressively refined. Adaobi Dibor delivers a compelling performance as Ese, carrying much of the film’s emotional weight. The special effects also stand out, seamlessly integrated and remarkably executed—good enough to challenge Mr Akinmolayan’s reputation as Nollywood’s go-to visual effects maestro.
With additional performances from Damilola Odunsi, Toyosi Benjamin, with young talents Pamilerin Ayodeji and Diana Egwatu, Thicker Than Water offers a visually satisfying cinematic experience. It may not surprise you, you might love it, you might not, but it’s worth finding out on Amazon Prime
