SCREENNOLLY THROWBACK - Unfinished Business

A 2007 romantic drama starring Genevieve Nnaji, Desmond Elliot, Patience Ozokwor, Ngozi Ezeonu, and Omoni Oboli, and directed by Lancelot Imasuen. The film follows Donald Eze (Elliot), who falls deeply in love with Nkem (Nnaji) during his one-year NYSC service.

Like many long-distance promises, Donald’s vow to return after service doesn’t quite pan out. Family pressure, expectations, and a “marriage of convenience” that tragically costs his father’s life push him into settling down with Olive (Oboli). Just when life seems to have moved on, fate steps in—Nkem reappears as the PA to Donald’s mother, reopening old wounds and rekindling feelings that never really died. From there, things spiral into emotional, devastating, and even life-threatening territory.

On the surface, Unfinished Business tells a familiar Nollywood story. But what really elevates it is the solid writing by sisters Emem and Uduak (Oguamanam) Isong and the strong performances from the cast, who bring depth and sincerity to a well-worn narrative. It’s proof that sometimes, it’s not the story itself—but how it’s told—that makes all the difference.
