TAKE TWO - “Hurray! It's Not Another Nollywood Romantic Comedy" Biodun Stephen Delivers a Brilliant Family Drama on YouTube.

Take Two, starring Daniel Etim Effiong and Tope Olowoniyan alongside Abiathar Jireh Ogbowu and Fiyin Asenuga (Introducing the Kujus), delivers exactly what you expect from a solid family drama — depth, emotion, and characters that feel instantly familiar.

The film has a layered narrative that captures the messy reality of family life with surprising honesty. Every character feels relatable, thanks largely to the convincing performances across the board.

The story, developed by Biodun Stephen, known for several critically acclaimed and award-winning projects that often explore social and moral themes, is written by Abimbola Akin (Rose & Ivy) and directed by Olubunmi Akingbola (Selina, Love Unplanned). Together, they deliver something refreshingly different from the long-winding, often predictable romantic comedies and dramas that Nollywood on YouTube has flooded us with.

Take Two takes us into the chaotic home of the Oghene family, where we meet a constantly bickering couple, Mercy (Olowniyan) and Sunny (Etim - Effiong), whose never-ending clashes have become a normal part of life for their children, Ese and Efe. The tension between their parents is so routine that even when they decide to end their marriage and tell the kids, it comes as a relief.

What does come as a shock, however, is that neither parent wants to move out of the house. And so the arguments continue — louder, sharper, and more exhausting — while the real casualties of the situation, the children, slowly get neglected.

Take Ese, for example. When the time comes for her to choose a partner for her Valedictory Party (prom), she’s left without the guidance she desperately needs. And when mum finally decide to step in, her advice is anything but helpful, often delivered through reflections on their own mistakes - “If you want to take anything from me, you better not take my stupidity, because this is how I was when I was your age… infatuated with a boy (Sunny)” Moments like this capture what Take Two does best — presenting family conflict with humour, frustration, and emotional truth, all at the same time

Ultimately, Take Two feels honest. It doesn’t try to overwhelm viewers with unnecessary twists or melodrama; instead, it quietly explores the everyday tensions of marriage, parenting, and the emotional ripple effects those conflicts have on children. Biodun Stephen once again proves that Nollywood stories don’t always have to revolve around romantic entanglements to be compelling. Sometimes, the most powerful drama happens right at the family dinner table.
