What we know as Nollywood started as far back as the early 90s. For the past 30 years, it has transformed from Home Video to DVD and now the Screen. The industry has seen countless contributors shaping its trajectory. But amid its changing tides and evolving talent, one name has remained constant: Kate Henshaw. With a career spanning three decades, the 52-year-old actress has consistently held a place on the A-list.
After graduating with a degree in Microbiology from the University of Lagos, she made her Nollywood debut in 1993 with a leading role in "When the Sun Sets. " From there, she starred in no less than 45 movies, including blockbusters such as My First Love and Heartbreaker with Richard Mofe Damijo, Forgiven with Emeka Ike and Chioma Chukwuka, Lost Angels with Tony Umez and Bridesmaid with Stella Damasus.
In 2006, she led an impressive cast in Emem Isong’s Lifestyle Romantic drama, Games Men Play. In 2008 and 2018, she won AMAA’s Best Actress for her performances in Stranger Than Pain and ROTI, respectively.
In 2019, she revealed her interest in politics when, in real life, she contested for a federal consistency seat and, on screen, starred as female Gubernatorial Candidate Mabel King in the movie 4th Republic. Her other screen presence includes impressive support roles in 2018 New Money with rising star Jemima Osunde, the 2022 thriller drama Series Blood Sisters and 2023 Niyi AKinmolayan’s psychological drama House of Secrets.
Ms Henshaw’s enduring influence in Nollywood is a testament to her remarkable career and versatility in the Nigerian film industry.
Screenolly invites you to spend a streaming weekend with this ever-smiling, ever-dancing Nollywood Woman King.
