Alhaji Taiwo Hassan might not ring a bell. Still, the mention of his moniker, Ogogo, instantly resonates across the world, introducing the vibrant veteran actor and producer who stands as a significant contributor to the Yoruba sector of Nollywood, playing a pivotal role in reshaping and redefining the industry.
A native of Ilaro, southwest Nigeria, his acting career started part-time in the early 80s while working full-time as an Auto mechanic. He transitioned into full-time acting in the early 90s, starring in movies like Atitebi. Agbelebu, Agbo-Odaju, Danfo Driver, Dr Brown and the blockbuster "Owo Blow," where he held the lead role, marking the beginnings of his illustrious career.
He teamed up with Yinka Quadri, Abbey Lanre and Rasaq Ajao, aka Araosun, to run an acting academy, Odunfa Caucus. This institution stands as a pillar in the Yoruba sector of Nollywood, credited for nurturing and producing top stars within the industry.
He also added a Producer credit to his resume when he formed his production company, Ogogo Films, where he produced and starred in a string of inspiring blockbusters such as Ibinu Elewon, Okan Soso, Sababi, Oba Asekan Mate and Ase Ntedumare, among others.
A staunch Muslim also famous for his Ewi exponent, a traditional Yoruba oral poetry practice, which he infuses into his craft, Ogogo's acting skill is reflected in his unparalleled ability to interpret characters with unwavering conviction. This remarkable talent has endeared him to a dedicated fanbase, especially among female audiences over the years.
