After months of silence around new Nigerian content on Netflix, Nollywood is finally making a return to the global streamer with Blood Sisters 2, the sequel to the hit crime thriller from EbonyLife Studios, premiering in June.
Originally released in 2022, Blood Sisters became Netflix’s first Nigerian Original series and quickly gained attention for its suspense-driven storytelling, polished production quality, and star-studded cast, including Ini Dima-Okojie, Nancy Isime, Kate Henshaw, Kehinde Bankole, Gabriel Afolayan, Deyemi Okanlawon, and Genoveva Umeh.

The upcoming sequel is expected to continue the dramatic story that made the original one of Netflix’s most talked-about African productions. It will also see the return of some of the original cast alongside new faces, including Michelle Dede, Segun Arinze, Bolaji Ogunmola, Mike Afolarin, and Anita Asuoha, popularly known as Real Warri Pikin.
Interestingly, EbonyLife Studios also delivered one of the few Nollywood projects that gained strong visibility on Netflix in recent times. Its 2025 drama series, Baby Farm, emerged as one of only a handful of Nigerian titles to debut globally on Netflix last year and went on to chart in the Netflix UK Top 10 shortly after its release.
The reduced volume of Nigerian releases on Netflix has become a growing talking point within the entertainment industry, particularly as it has deprived the UK African community of premium Nollywood content, leaving many viewers to rely heavily on Nollywood films distributed on YouTube.
Between 2020 and 2024, the streaming giant aggressively invested in Nollywood originals and licensed projects, including Shanty Town, Jagun Jagun, Far From Home, House of Ga’a, and King of Boys: The Return of the King. However, public announcements surrounding new Nigerian commissions have slowed considerably since 2025.
For many industry observers, the return of Blood Sisters may signal Netflix’s renewed confidence in proven African franchises with established audiences both locally and internationally.
As anticipation builds ahead of the June release, attention will not only be on the storyline itself, but also on whether EbonyLife can surpass its own 2025 milestone, when Baby Farm broke into the Netflix UK Top 10 and demonstrated the global appetite for premium Nollywood storytelling
