Enlightening documentary about the dynamism of Nigeria's Yoruba culture as it extends beyond the border and is being practised in the US and some South American countries as well as the Caribbean
Written and directed by Toyin Ibrahim Adekeye, Bigger Than Africa explores the importation of the Yoruba culture through slavery into six countries: Trinidad &Tobago, Cuba, Spain, Brazil and The Oyotunji Village of South Carolina, USA.
Featuring some notable personalities such as Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, HRH Oba Adegbolu Adefunmi and Alaafin of Oyo's cultural ambassador, Prof. Paula Gomez, the 86-minute feature length highlights how it has survived and become a dominant and alternative culture for the slave descendants.
With a '12' rating, Bigger than Africa earned an AMAA nomination for Best Documentary in 2018. It is an educating, enlightening, and very entertaining piece to watch on Netflix
